The Greatest Casino Destination on Earth
More gaming revenue than Las Vegas, Singapore, and Atlantic City combined. The Cotai Strip. The Venetian. The world's most spectacular integrated resorts — all in one extraordinary city.
Macau: Where East Meets the World's Greatest Casinos
Macau is a Special Administrative Region of China — a city of approximately 650,000 people that generates more casino gaming revenue than any other place on earth. A former Portuguese colony returned to China in 1999, Macau carries five centuries of Portuguese colonial architecture alongside some of the most technologically advanced casino resorts ever built. The contrast is part of what makes it unforgettable.
For decades, Macau's casino monopoly was held by Stanley Ho's company, and gaming was confined to the historic Macau Peninsula. When gaming liberalization opened the market in 2002, the world's major casino operators — Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts, MGM, Melco, Galaxy — rushed in. The result was the Cotai Strip: a massive reclaimed land development between the islands of Taipa and Coloane that became the most concentrated collection of luxury integrated resorts on the planet.
The Venetian Macao — with the world's largest casino floor — opened in 2007 and set the template. Wynn Palace, Galaxy Macau, City of Dreams, Studio City, MGM Cotai, The Parisian, and The Londoner followed, each more spectacular than the last. Macau surpassed Las Vegas in gaming revenue around 2006 and has held the #1 position ever since.
🏙️ Cotai Strip
The modern powerhouse — reclaimed land between Taipa and Coloane islands hosting the world's largest integrated casino resorts. Las Vegas-scale and beyond.
🏛️ Macau Peninsula
The historic heart — where Stanley Ho's Grand Lisboa towers over Portuguese colonial streets, UNESCO World Heritage ruins, and the original casino district.
✈️ Getting There
Ferry from Hong Kong (1 hour), the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (opened 2018), Macau International Airport, or helicopter from Hong Kong (15 minutes). The world comes to Macau easily.
The Venetian Macao

The Venetian Macao is the crown jewel of the Cotai Strip — and by most measures, the most remarkable casino resort building on earth. Operated by Sands China (a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands), The Venetian Macao opened in 2007 and brought the template of its Las Vegas predecessor to Asia on a scale that surpasses even the original. The casino floor alone covers over 550,000 square feet — the largest single casino floor in the world. The resort's suites, convention space, arena, retail canal, and restaurants form a complete self-contained city.
The signature gondola rides on the indoor Grand Canal — beneath a hand-painted sky ceiling inside one of the world's biggest buildings — remain one of the most memorable experiences in global casino travel. The Venetian Macao isn't just a casino. It's a destination within a destination.
★ The benchmark: Any serious Macau visitor who walks past The Venetian without stepping inside is making a mistake. Even non-gamblers find it extraordinary.
Macau's Modern Casino Corridor

Grand Lisboa Macau
SJM Holdings · Macau PeninsulaThe Grand Lisboa is the defining image of modern Macau — a lotus-flower-shaped tower that dominates the Peninsula skyline and glows gold and amber at night. SJM Holdings, successor to the Stanley Ho gaming empire that held Macau's casino monopoly for four decades, built the Grand Lisboa as its flagship property. The hotel and casino occupy two distinct structures: the iconic tower and the older Lisboa Hotel, which opened in 1970 and is itself a piece of Macau gaming history. Grand Lisboa's casino attracts serious players, its hotel is one of Macau's finest, and its restaurants include some of the most decorated in Asia. No visit to Macau is complete without seeing the Grand Lisboa from across the waterfront.
